"As if they wanted to fry an egg on my forehead"
Art Foundation Baden-Württemberg

February 25 - April 29, 2023
Vernissage: Friday, February 24, 2023 at 7 p.m.

The exhibition of Oliver-Selim Boualam is about anger, annoyance, stress, pressure, burden, scales, weigh, weigh, dare, bring someone to white heat, the overheated engine and the red-hot hood and how to deal with it, feel better, free yourself from it.

The artist plays in his works with everyday objects and familiar objects. Using different materials such as wood, metal, plastic or ceramics, he creates sculptures and installations that include a participatory aspect and turn typical everyday routines on their head. Familiar sequences of action and movement, such as sitting, lying down, swaying, are renegotiated; ultimately, we are playfully and humorously challenged to a new habit, possibly a rethinking. For this purpose, a part of the exhibition becomes a production site, as the artist invites the participants to expand the exhibition with a ceramic workshop: exhibition visitors as well as invited guests can express their own interpretation of what it means when an egg is cracked on our head.

Oliver-Selim Boualam (*1992 in Stühlingen) lives and works as an artist and designer in Karlsruhe. In 2021 he graduated from the University of Design Karlsruhe with the diploma project SUMMHAUS. From 2016-2019 he was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation, in 2017 he was artist in residence at Villa Lena, IT.
