During her fellowship in Paris, Karolina Sobel is studying the phenomenon of sinkholes - fontis in French: Rock collapses, formed in response to moisture. Sobel is researching the historic Parisian tunnels as well as the culture of cataphiles. Within the framework of a petrographic experimental arrangement, she shows the fragility of the Parisian subsoil and its conservation.

Karolina Sobel (born 1987) completed a master's degree in urban history in Darmstadt and media art studies in Karlsruhe. In 2020, she was a fellow of the Kunststiftung Baden Württemberg. Currently, she is an academic assistant for artistic photography.

The Retour de Paris series offers artists based in Baden-Württemberg a fellowship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, as well as the opportunity to exhibit in our new space. It is financed by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Baden-Württemberg.
