HfG Alumna Sophie Lichtenberg presents her work together with Lea Langenfelder at the TheatreArt and Music Festival Summer Up on July 19 and 20, 2019 in Heidelberg and Mannheim.
In 2017, the artists accompanied a Bundeswehr training to prepare journalists for their work in crisis regions. The course is characterized by its methodology: Soldiers simulate war and crisis scenarios for their participants. The Bundeswehr is thus focusing on the generation of knowledge through experience, a trend that is currently increasingly being observed in visual and performing arts. In their subsequent exhibition, Langenfelder and Lichtenberg negotiated the power and mechanisms of action of staged experiences, with the question of how fiction and reality influence one another.
Summer Up presents the workbook Preenacting Reenactments, which was created in this context, based on the previous nine-month research, which opens up further reception levels and documents and initiates guided interviews as well as philosophical scientific associations.
Sophie Lichtenberg works as a freelance artist and scenographer. From 2010 to 2017 she studied scenography, exhibition design and curatorial practice, art research and media art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
The Summer Up is the first German festival that aims to show works by creative young theater assistants and up-and-coming artists. The TheatreArt and Music Festival Summer Up sees itself as a platform for young artists and wants to expand the boundaries of traditional cultural institutions. Stagings, performances, installations, music and dance stand side by side on equal footing and work together. The merger of different art forms and the creation of a space in which upcoming artists can present their work is the central concern of the Summer Up Festival.
The diverse programme features staged theatre, dance and performance productions, includes readings and audiovisual installations, and offers a rich musical programme that features singer-songwriters and DJs alike.
