At the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG), the following professorship is to be filled as soon as possible:
Professorship for Communication Design and Visual Literacy (m / f / d)
(W3 pay grade, 66%)

The professorship is based on a non-tariff employment contract. It is initially limited to three years and can be extended by up to a further three years.

The HfG Karlsruhe is a place for people who want to synthesise and implement a variety of approaches and perspectives in their artistic and design work. In the field of communication design today, not only broad technical knowledge is needed, but also an understanding of processes based on the division of labour and collaboration. Digital tools in particular are becoming increasingly sophisticated, interlocking and forming interdependencies. An expanded digital practice integrates web technologies, 3D graphics, distributed publishing and virtual world-building to create complex and poetic digital systems.

Against this backdrop, the Communication Design Departement seeks an internationally recognised individual with a contemporary artistic and pedagogical approach, an extensive network and proven professional experience, and who has demonstrated a particular interest in the design aspects of digital practice.


Your tasks:

Planning and implementing courses in relevant areas such as word, image, page, message, format, code, programme

Promoting a diverse and inclusive vision of communication design in relation to social issues, especially digital cultures and their historical antecedents

Willingness to work in interdisciplinary contexts within and outside the university

Active shaping of a collaborative research and teaching culture within the university and in cooperation with the ZKM, the partner institution of the HfG

The position requires collaboration in academic self-administration as well as participation in university committees

Active recruitment and implementation of cooperations with external partners

Your profile:

You represent an outstanding artistic or discursive position within your subject area and have proven this internationally

You have special technical skills in the areas of coding, software integration, post-lens image production and familiarity with Internet culture

Your practice reflexively engages with design in the context of its social and cultural environments and issues


Recruitment requirements:

You meet the requirements for employment according to § 47 of the Baden-Würrtemberg University Law particular.

Completion of a relevant university degree and/or outstanding subject-related achievements in artistic, design or discursive practice

Special aptitude for artistic-creative work, as a rule evidenced by a recognised body of work and international professional practice

Special pedagogical aptitude and many years of teaching experience in your subject area
