At the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG), the following professorship is to be filled as soon as possible:
Professorship for Media Art with a focus on Code & Image (m / f / d)
(W3 pay grade, 100%)

The calling is in pay grade W3 for lifetime (100%).

The HfG Karlsruhe is a place of media art that artistically engages with the revolutionary technological developments, especially in the field of digital media, and explores and conveys a correspondingly wide range of technical-design and theoretical-conceptual foundations.

The focus of the advertised professorship is the artistic use of light-based (photographic) image processes that engage with the wide-ranging spectrum of analogue and digital techniques. A critical approach to systems of order and imaging processes and the hierarchies of production and reception interwoven within them is desired.

In this context, the Media Art Section is looking for an internationally outstanding and recognised person who can demonstrate a contemporary artistic profile, a broad network and relevant professional experience, and who can combine these competences with an independent pedagogical vision.

Your tasks:

Teaching and artistic supervision in the diploma programme Media Art

Development and delivery of courses for students of all disciplines at various stages of their studies

Promote a diverse and inclusive vision of media arts in relation to social issues, especially digital cultures and their historical antecedents

Actively shaping a collaborative research and teaching culture within the university and in cooperation with the ZKM, the HfG's partner institution

Implementation of cooperation projects with external partners and acquisition of funding

Participation in academic self-administration and the university's committees

Your profile:

You represent an outstanding artistic or discursive position within your field and have demonstrated this internationally

Your practice reflexively engages with art in the field of tension of its social and cultural environments and issues

You have an interest in and experience of working in interdisciplinary contexts and projects within and outside the university, possibly in a leading role

You are internationally networked and willing to relocate your centre of life to the Karlsruhe region, as your high temporal presence at the Karlsruhe location is expected

You are fluent in written and spoken German and English

Recruitment requirements

You meet the requirements for employment according to § 47 of the Baden-Würrtemberg University Law, in particular:

Completion of a university degree in the field relevant to the professorship o pedagogical aptitude

Pedagogical aptitude

Special aptitude for artistic work, as a rule demonstrated by an internationally recognised artistic work

Relevant practical and theoretical knowledge of analogue and digital processes for image production and editing
