Thomas Fröhlich took up his post as chancellor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (HFG) on October 1, 2021. In this role, he will in future be responsible for the areas of business and personnel administration. Following a multi-stage selection process from a large number of highly qualified applicants, both the University Council and the University Senate voted in favor of the science manager in a joint meeting.

Thomas Fröhlich brings a wide range of experience in cultural and science management to this position. He studied law in Passau and Berlin, liberal arts in New York and fine arts in Kassel.

Through his activities in the artistic field as a scriptwriter and director, his experience in various leading positions in business as well as in science management at the Kunsthochschule Kassel (KhK), he brings a wide range of skills to his new position as Chancellor. Before moving to the HfG Karlsruhe, he spent ten years as an officer responsible for university administration and the operational business of the KhK, reporting to the rectorate. In addition, he was a member of the Senate of the University of Kassel, to which the KhK belongs as a semi-autonomous institution. He also has private ties to art and has been involved in the Kasseler Kunstverein e.V. and the advisory board of the Friends of the Kasseler Stadtmuseum e.V. for many years.

Commenting on his new role at the HfG Karlsruhe, he says: "I am very much looking forward to my new position and to initiating developments at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (HfG) together with the professors, students and staff, and to implementing them as a result. With the necessary respect and responsibility towards the institution, together we will prepare the HfG for the future and the university will benefit positively."
