Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design was first established as a progressive school on April 15, 1992. It was founded by Heinrich Klotz between the years 1989 and 1992, together with the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. The combination of teaching, research, and exhibition institutions addresses the given artistic and pedagogic task of relating traditional arts to media technology and electronic production processes.

Want to find out more about studying at the HfG Karlsruhe?
This year, pupils and prospective students can once again find out about study options on site at the state-wide study information day at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe.
The departments of Media Art, Product and Communication Design, Exhibition Design and Scenography, as well as Art Science and Media Philosophy will be presenting themselves and providing insights into the special features of the course of study. In addition, interested parties will be guided through the studios and workshops of the university and can thus gain a precise idea of everyday study life. Students will also be on hand to answer detailed questions about the individual subjects. Afterwards, there is the opportunity to visit the current exhibitions of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media (free admission on this day upon presentation of a valid student ID).
