The event on 20.07.23 is themed "Climate Walks /by Bike" and takes place on at least two wheels. Starting from the bicycle laboratory of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences HKA, the participants will follow the Cityroute Süd on bicycles and prototypes with destination Quartier Zukunft / KIT in Oststadt, with a refreshing stopover at Lidellplatz. Besides the presentation of the thematic projects of the participating institutions the participants are invited to share their impressions via the method of the "Think Aloud Protocol". For this purpose, thoughts and feelings made during the tour are expressed and recorded as direct experiences. The "Climate Walks" are open walks for anyone interested in getting into conversation about sustainability topics and learning about new formats and projects at Karlsruhe's universities.

Bicycle laboratory of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.

All research projects of the bicycle laboratory aim at the development of bicycle traffic in terms of sustainable mobility. For example, work is being done on stationary and mobile recording of cycling data from the perspective of cyclists, on the use of bicycle simulators, or on concrete cycling planning. The spectrum of contributions ranges, among other things, from the currently discussed problem of overtaking distances, to particulate matter pollution for babies in bicycle trailers, energy and range prediction for e-bikes and the potential for e-bikes in rural areas, to optimized winter road maintenance for bicycle paths.

The bicycle laboratory bundles the interdisciplinary and cross-faculty research activities of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences on bicycle traffic. Their expertise is contributed by the Institutes of Transportation and Infrastructure (IVI), Ubiquitous Mobility Systems (IUMS) and Energy Efficient Mobility (IEEM) as well as by the BMDV-endowed professorship for cycling.

Quartier Zukunft - Labor Stadt

"Quartier Zukunft - Labor Stadt" is a research and development project of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) that aims to make an entire urban neighborhood and its people fit for the future. The question is: How can we live well in the city today and tomorrow - and at the same time respect the environment and the future? The idea is not to redesign large areas of what already exists, but to carefully transform them in cooperation with citizens, scientists, politicians and the private sector.

Karlsruhe Reallabor for Sustainable Climate Protection.

KARLA is the "Karlsruhe Real Laboratory for Sustainable Climate Protection". As one of a total of five climate protection reallaboratories in the state, research and development in numerous cooperative ventures with politics, civil society, administration, business and committed citizens form the core of of KARLA. This so-called transdisciplinary interlocking of science and practice is typical for a real laboratory. In this way, societal challenges, such as climate change, can be illuminated from different perspectives and joint approaches to solutions for transformation can be developed. KARLA is part of the reallaboratory "Quartier Zukunft - Labor Stadt" and uses the existing transdisciplinary infrastructures, competences and networks and expands them further.

KARLA is lead-managed by the team of the Karlsruhe Transformation Center for Sustainability and Cultural Change (KAT). KAT is part of the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
