On your marks, get set, Type Design!

The second edition of Saturday Type Fever will take place on the 17th and 18th of January. Students from various art and design colleges in Europe are inviited to the atriums of the HfG Karlsruhe to work together on typefaces for 30 hours, accompanied by a rich program of opening workshops, talks, installations and various other formats.

"When and how does the body influence how we create, use and perceive typography?"
"To what extent is Type Design a mirror for social and political processes / developments?"
"When does Type Design become professional?"
"Where are the origins of writing (s)?"

This year, the multifaceted aspect of type design plays an important role.. Because type design and typography are not just means to an end, they convey messages and have a direct influence on the immediate environment in which they are used. For this reason, at STF II, we will be focusing on various topics that deal with typefaces and their design and application on different levels and are planning topic-related talks.

Of course there will be moments during the 30 hours where you want to relax or even lie down for a while. There will be a small lounge where it is possible to enjoy a beer with the other participants to regenerate or lie down for a while. The marathon ends on Saturday at 00:00 with a big party!

The Saturday Type Fever is fully booked, registration is no longer possible!
Participation in the STF is free of charge and food will be provided for a small donation. A registration is binding.

NoFoundry is a type foundry run by students of Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, established in the semester 2017/18 in a seminar of the HfG Professor duo Johnson/Kingston, with the aim of giving students the opportunity to sell their own typefaces and to exchange ideas with other students and designers about the design and use of typefaces.
