Approachable Houses deals with exhibiting architecture. Unlike in art exhibitions, where art is presented in the original, this is more difficult in architectural exhibitions. Here architectures are often represented by medializations such as drawings, photographs and plans.
In artistic research Approachable Houses negotiates questions about the representation, medialization, simulation and appropriation of architecture on the basis of the model house exhibition in Fellbach. This was founded in 1971 by the publisher Ottmar Strebel and is, according to its own account, the first of its kind in Germany. Visitors can view, walk in and buy 66 different, almost completely furnished model houses. The result is a hybrid of exhibition, setback and simulation architecture.
