A project at the interface between communication design and art studies/media philosophy is presented under the title “Dirty Computer”. In the seminar of the same name, students worked with the image and video archive of Gramazio Kohler Research, ETH Zurich. It tells of experimental arrangements, the interplay between researchers, robotics, digital modeling and the material behavior of raw building materials. The group then designed and produced the prototype of the future publication, a “Dirty Publication”, which presents and reflects on observations, speculative scenarios, research and production processes through text and images.
The publication was created under the direction of Prof. Isabel Seiffert (Communication Design) and Prof. Nina Zschocke (Art Studies and Media Philosophy) with the students Alessia Meyer, En Tong Wu, Chiara Kern, Julian Jaffé, Tizian Repp, Ewa Wasilewska, Oshiro Seiji Shimabukuro, Dshamilja Tükerek, Jana Renger and Alena Esra Pfanz.
It is based, among other things, on a joint seminar week at the Institute for Technology in Architecture (ITA) at ETH Zurich, together with students from Armin Linke's photography class at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and the Gramazio Kohler Research Group.
