What does it mean to flee when the currents still pull you under?
Currents of Change is an independent production by Jessica Kessler, created during her internship at Studio Riso Pop in Amsterdam. The self-written and illustrated zine tells the story of an octopus that changes in search of freedom—a poetic symbol for the struggle to survive in an uncertain world.
This vivid story reflects the reality of survival in an uncertain world where the careless are devoured and the only choice is to adapt or perish. Born in constant danger, the ocean was never a refuge. Hunted, alone, always on the run, escape seemed impossible—until the octopus discovered another way. A world beyond the waves. A life among the creatures that lived on land.
Mimicry became survival. Adaptation became existence. But as the ocean withers and old ghosts resurface, one question remains: Was it ever really freedom?
