The project "Learning Libraries Karlsruhe - creatively working and learning" submitted jointly with universities and educational institutions of Karlsruhe was approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and is funded with 510,000 euros. The project is being implemented by the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the College of Education and the University of Applied Sciences, the Dual University BW Karlsruhe, the Baden State Library and the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.

"Learning Libraries Karlsruhe" addresses the increasing demand for study rooms and workplaces by students and other library visitors. The project aims to transform the university and library location Karlsruhe into a trans-institutional learning landscape and to anchor it in the consciousness of the users as a "shared learning landscape". For example, workplaces are created in new learn-settings at several locations; in addition, a room app links different rooms and workplaces and makes them bookable. As part of the expansion of library services, the department of product design of our university is part of the subproject "Iconic outdoor furniture" and, under the direction of Prof. Chris Kabel and Stefan Legner, deals with the design of the exterior space.

In 2018, the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg launched the funding program "BW-BigDIWA - Scientific Libraries Shape the Digital Transformation". It aims to prepare and strengthen academic libraries in the country to meet the challenges of the increasingly global and digital world. A total of 15 projects are funded.
