The Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe is still accepting applications for the winter semester 2023/2024 until April 30. In a time of global upheaval, the HfG Karlsruhe combines art, critical theory and design and offers ways to rethink present and future open spaces. It is constantly reinventing itself to shape the future.
At HfG Karlsruhe, the community exchanges one-dimensional viewpoints for broader perspectives, uses objects and technology as tools for reflection and research, and understands freedom as something that is not given but created through self-reflection, self-organization, and reappropriation of our media.
The HfG Karlsruhe is a design university that does not aim to produce the same solutions over and over again, but to question the function and meaning of design for producers and consumers. Its graduates become active citizens and master how to deal with doubts and criticism, to debate, provoke and contradict ideas.
The HfG Karlsruhe is always in exchange with national and international partners and is part of numerous cooperations and interdisciplinary projects, among others with its neighbor, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media.
Applications for the upcoming winter semester 2023/2024 at the HfG Karlsruhe are still possible until April 30.
A unique combination of artistic, design and theoretical subjects makes studying at the HfG Karlsruhe particularly varied and exciting for later professional life. With the subjects communication design, product design, media art, exhibition design and scenography, art science and media philosophy, the university presents itself as an interdisciplinary and future-oriented art academy.
Common to all courses is the interdisciplinary project work practiced from the beginning, which enables an ideal combination of theory and practice and reflects the university's teaching concept. The cooperation with the neighboring ZKM | Center for Art and Media underlines the interdisciplinary orientation of the university. Internationally renowned professors and artists ensure excellent teaching that maintains its international profile. Well-equipped studios and workshops guarantee a highly innovative environment for the promotion of experimentation.
In the striking rooms of a former munitions factory, the university offers its approximately 400 students not only excellent study conditions, but also - as one of the few in Germany - diploma and master's degrees. The HfG Karlsruhe was founded as a unique combination of teaching, research and exhibition institutions that takes into account the artistic and educational task of bringing together art, media and electronic production processes.
