Dr. Füsun Türetken is Professor at Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe HfG (Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design), Germany. She works across disciplines and scales, applying a transdisciplinary teaching methodology. She runs Studio ft., a platform that hacks into contemporary conditions of institutions by supporting collaborative work. She received her PhD from Goldsmiths University London, her work titled 'On the Most Powerful Catalyst on the Planet’ provides a reading of conflict and capital through matter, more precisely metal.
It was awarded with grants and a fellowship. She has recently shown work at STUK Leuven at 'Rare Earth, Stories from Below' Artefakt 2018; Impakt Festival and Fiber Festival, 2017; BAK Utrecht 2017; Goteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art in 2013; the Venice Biennale in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Füsun has been a fellow with Het Nieuwe Instituut in 2016/17. Since 2013 she has been teaching at renowned academies and continues to be a senior lecturer at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) in Graphic Design next to her engagement at the HfG Karlsruhe. In 2008 she was Director of the German Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. She has been an editor and curator with 'Shrinking Cities' in Berlin for four years, and worked at University College London for two years, to mention a few amongst other engagements. Her academic background lies in architecture and visual culture.
Earlier in her career she (co-) authored exhibitions and publications exploring the contemporary city, including 'Shrinking Cities,’ and "Urban Catalyst.' She has written articles ranging from academic to popular culture, e.g. "Alchemic Desire” in Swiss Psychotropic Gold, Christoph Merian Verlag 2020, 'Modern Love' Algorithms and ARTs, ‘Disco-‘ and 'Encountering the Contemporary' with Irit Rogoff in Volume Magazine, June and September 2016, "Breathing Space: The Amalgamated Toxicity of Ground Zero" in Forensis, the Architecture of Public Truth, Sternberg Press 2014, 'Shrinking Cities Volume 2 Interventions,' 2005.
