For In Progress - Alpine Landscapes, Elias Siebert re-captured the Alps from the same point of view as the geologist Wilhelm Paulcke at the beginning of the 20th century. The motifs include shelters, settlements, alpine meadows, mountain lakes, and glaciers. In comparing the old and new images, one sees the spread of civilization and its effects on the alpine landscape in the past century. Additional photographs substantiate the changes shown; they clarify what can often only be guessed at in the comparative image pairs: causes, characteristics and effects of the changes on the landscape and people. Also discussed is the relationship between people and the landscape revealed in their habitats using the mountains.
