The second edition of Saturday Type Fever took place on January 17 and 18, 2020. This year again, students of various art and design universities in Europe were invited to the light atrium at HfG Karlsruhe, to work for 30 hours on typefaces. The event was accompanied by opening workshops, talks and other smaller formats.

This year, the diversity of fonts and typeface design became the focus. Type design and typography are not only a means to an end; they transport messages and have direct influence on the immediate environment in which they are implemented. Consequently, STF II placed various themes that relate to font as well as their design and use on different levels at the centre of focus.

The following questions were explored during the collaboration and in the talks:

→→A → “When and how does the body influence how we create, use and perceive typography?” →→B → “To what extent is type design a mirror to social and political processes/development?” →→C → “When does type design become professional?” →→D → “What are the origins of font?”
