AHORN is an analogue variable font. As with a digital variable font, where the letters can be manipulated using various parameters, AHORN can be squeezed to different widths due to its physical properties. This means that a large number of font styles are possible with only one source font.

For this purpose, the letters were cut from foam scraps with a laser and then held in different squeezing states on a scanner in a special device (letter squeezer). The letters are shaped in such a way that exciting and unexpected bends are created by the squeezing. For example, the letter H has concavely curved outer lines in its original state and the slightly tilted N is first bent straight before the inside is squashed. The letters A, H, O, R and N were the first 5 letters on which the rest were based.

To make the analogue script nevertheless easy to use and accessible, the scanned letters were prepared and can be tried out in an online tool. Have fun squeezing!
