Delusions

The second issue of Schwarm, the student journal for art and theory, entitled ‘Delusions’, examines the way in which illusions, deceptions and misconceptions influence world views, both on an individual, cultural and political level. The issue was awarded the prize of the Heinrich Hertz Gesellschaft.

Institutional failures and power dynamics caused by obtuseness or hubris, struggles against systemic pressures or escapism into alternative worlds – be it their seductive allure as a strategy of coping with such situations or as the origin of these ills, inside or outside of HfG, we are confronted with delusions. Seeing this theme emerge in those contexts as well as in the writings of our contributors, the eponymous second issue of Schwarm can be seen as an attempt to shed light on the ways in which individuals or groups retreat back into untouchable bastions of parochial worldviews, parallel universes, or gather under exclusionary paradigms. In this sense either motivated or sometimes pressured by the urgency of present matters, the contributors of the new Schwarm issue tackle the multitudes of delusions from diverse perspectives.
