The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) is an internationally recognized art academy with a unique combination of artistic, design and theoretical study programmes.
Since its foundation as a reform university in 1992, the HfG has been driven by an interest in artistic and theoretical media cultures and technologies as well as their contemporary social, political, and ecological development.
The HfG offers its approximately 360 students a wide range of courses in exhibition design and scenography, product design, communication design as well as media art, art studies, and media philosophy with diploma and magister degrees. Furtherly, it has the right to award doctorates and habilitations. The HfG´s internationally renowned professors stand for excellent, globally networked teaching and research. In addition, the well-equipped studios and workshops offer an outstanding infrastructure for a lively, inter- and transdisciplinary culture of teaching, learning and experimental research.
Additionally, the continued cooperation between the HfG and the neighboring ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe is considered of great importance.

Rector (f/m/d)
The HfG is looking for a committed and assertive personality with integration skills and sensitivity for the artistic, scientific and structural aspects of the university. Within the collegial Rectorate the Rector heads the HfG in accordance with the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act and actively represents the university externally. We are looking for a person who will further develop the university's founding idea in a contemporary manner and strengthen its strategic positioning both nationally and internationally, involving all stakeholders internally and externally.
To be considered for the position, a full-time role as a professor of the university or the completion of a university education alongside several years of professional experience within subjects such as science, art, business, administration, or the administration of justice, would be expected.

*Experience in academic self-administration at a state university or comparable institutions, ideally in the field of design, artistic and scientific education
*Experience in establishing and expanding local to international strategic partnerships and networks
*Experience in collaborating with stakeholders and in committee work
*A high proficiency level in spoken and written German and English

*Leadership skills in a collegial, participative management style
*Clear, transparent communication with an open-minded and respectful culture of debate
*Strategic clarity and ability to develop the university innovatively

Willingness to relocate to the Karlsruhe area is expected.
The Rector is elected in a joint meeting of the University Council and Senate. The Rector is elected as a temporary civil servant; alternatively, the Rector is employed on a fixed-term contract. The term of office is a minimum of six and a maximum of eight years. The term of office is determined by the University Council. Re-election is possible. The position is designated to grade W3. A functional benefit may be granted.
