On May 16, 2019 the Design Museum Ghent opens the exhibition "DIEREN OP MAAT", which continues the exhibition "Creatures Made to Measure – Animals and Contemporary Design" curated by the HfG graduate Tanja Seiner in cooperation with the Museum Marta Herford and the Design Museum Gent.

Animals have always served an important purpose for humans – whether as food, scientific test object, hunting trophy or playmate. When they are used today as organ donors for humans, or are cultivated in laboratories, we have to ask whether these “creatures” are even still animals at all. The designers and artists in this exhibition ask for the “acceptable degree“ of manipulation and research possibilities of replacing animal-based raw materials and even the animal itself. At the same time, they take a look at the relationships between humans and animals from new perspectives and design scenarios that look into the future.

With contributions by Silvia Knüppel, Max Kosoric, Peter Schäfer, Katharina Wahl and BLESS as well as Johannes Tolk, whi designed the catalog, further former students and teachers of the HfG Karlsruhe are involved in the project. The catalog (Dutch/English) will be available soon from Kerber Verlag. The participatory project Humanimoji.com, developed by Johannes Tolk and Tanja Seiner, will be accessible via a website.
