The Zeitbild-Lab aims to promote student film projects, to contribute to their distribution and visibility at festivals in Germany and abroad, and to strengthen the teaching of the artistic cinema film at the HfG in the form of guests and workshops as well as in contact with the cinephile film industry and art scene.
Laura Morcillo ist runnig the Zeitbild-Lab since 2019, in collaboration with Filmmakers as Prof. Serpil Turhan, Prof. Fred Kelemen and Prof. Dane Komljen, among others, as well as other external guests as Carmen Beckenbach, Melissa de Raaf and Philipp Hartmann.
After producing a few films, which have been shown in international film festivals, Zeitbild-Lab was presenting 2022 this first films of the platform in a film festival with an Open-Air Cinema, curated with other films from our film archive, celebrating the success of the platform and the 30th anniversary of the HfG.
Please have a look at the programm with trailers here And here the trailer of the Filmfestival (under "25 Juni" 2022).
In several annual pitches, students can apply for funding for their projects. Each project has the possibility to apply again for future Calls and receive support in different phases of the project, if necessary. Whether it receives support more than once will depend on the set of projects submitted in each call.
Before sending the applications, it is requested to make several appointments with at least one of the professors and one more with Laura Morcillo, in order to get to know the project and receive advice on how to prepare the application. This facilitates our work and is equally useful for your project.

It is necessary to make an agreement with the Zeitbild-Lab and clarify the rules for spending this money.
One of the rules, for example, is that there is a period of one semester to spend the money on this project; which can be extended if good reasons are provided in advance. This helps us to have a more concrete overview of which other projects, besides the production projects from the calls, can be supported during each semester, e.g. for the application to Festivals. Please note for these projects the 15th April 2025 as the final date for using the amounts granted.
Mrs. Augustin (Marion Augustin > marion.augustin(at)hfg-karlsruhe.de) and Mrs. Gebhard (Birgit Gebhard > bgebhard(at)hfg-karlsruhe.de) provide support in financial matters as well (also under > rechnungswesen(at)hfg-karlsruhe.de).
Apart from this, it is very important for the Zeitbild-Lab that all students who have submitted projects contact soon the professors, talk about the reasons for the decisions taken, and receive further detailed advice and support about their project. I can also offer consultation hours if required. We, therefore, ask you to inform us/Zeitbild-Lab regularly about the development of your projects and send us material (Stills, Trailer, etc) when you have it, for the Filmarchive and Website, for our documentation and in order to support you further in the future. Each project has the possibility to apply again for future Calls and receive support in different phases of the project, if necessary. Whether it receives support more than once will depend on the set of projects submitted in each call.
Please note that the 13th Call will take place in April 2025. The exact date will be announced weeks in advance. Applications can be submitted between now and 1st April 2025. Before sending the applications, it is requested to make several appointments with at least one of the professors and one more with me, in order to get to know the project and receive advice on how to prepare the application. This facilitates our work and is equally useful for your project. You will find the current informations generally on the HfG-Website under >https://hfg-karlsruhe.de/personen/laura-morcillo/
All the best for you and your projects, on behalf Laura Morcillo /// Zeitbild-Lab ///
