The Seminar “Score of the Mangrove” followed the entangled branches and roots of the Mangrove, with our body-mind. Mangroves are intertidal trees with complex, aerial, and anchoring root systems adapted to saltwater environments. They build forests as widespread networks that make oxygen-poor soils fertile and support biodiversity by creating multi-species wards and protecting shorelines from erosion. In various anti-colonial struggles, mangrove forests served as refuge and hiding spots from the targeting of military airstrikes. Through various somatic practices and body movements, the mangrove imaginary evokes resistance, resilience, and horizontal connections.
The seminar explored different approaches to the body in movement, somatic practices, and performance, engaging with these motifs and movement qualities. Its focus lay on relationships – to one another, to the material environment, and to multiple rhizomatic and muddy concepts. This practice resulted in the development and performance of original Scores, always rooted in relational improvisation. During the Rundgang, visitors are warmly invited to join the sharing.
