Geboren 1981 in Donostia-San Sebastián, Diplom in Geschichte an der Universität des Baskenlandes (Spanien) und Nizza-Sophia-Antipolis (Frankreich) und Diplom in Medienkunst an der Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (Deutschland).

Seit 2009 arbeitet sie als Fotografin und produziert eigene Filme - "Die Hüter der Waren", "The Day when the Fools are gone", "Lettre de Werderplatz", "The sea is an oblivion, a song, a lip" -, die auf Festivals wie doclisboa und DOK.fest München gezeigt wurden.

2010-2011 war sie Mitglied der Migrant Image Research Group, u.a. mit Prof. Armin Linke und Lisa Bergmann, und arbeitete in Rom, Sizilien und Lampedusa für die Ausstellung "Lampedusa, The Day After" in der Villa Romana, Florenz.

Sie arbeitete in der Museumskommunikation des ZKM Karlsruhe - Zentrum für Kunst und Medien - sowie als Filmkuratorin für die Kinemathek Karlsruhe und als Mitglied der Auswahlkommission für das dokKA-Festival für Dokumentarfilm.

Bis 2018 war sie an der Produktion des Films "A New Environment - Heinrich Klotz on Architecture and New Media" von Christian Haardt beteiligt, der 2019 im internationalen Wettbewerb von doclsiboa und 2021 im BAFICI in Buenos Aires gezeigt wurde.

2021-22 war sie Hauptkoordinatorin der HfG Karlsruhe für das Festival Driving the Human in Kooperation mit dem ZKM, bei dem es um Visionen zur Gestaltung einer nachhaltigen kollektiven Zukunft im Spannungsfeld von Wissenschaft, Technik und Kunst ging.

Derzeit leitet sie die Plattform Zeitbild-Lab für die Produktion und den Vertrieb von Filmen der Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe und ist dort auch als Gleichstellungsbeauftragte tätig.

Zeitbild-Lab

Das Zeitbild-Lab, gegründet 2019 von Răzvan Rădulescu, Christine Reeh-Peters und João Tabarra, versteht sich als Plattform für den künstlerischen Film an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, das sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, zukünftige Filmschaffende auszubilden, die künstlerische Filme sowohl für den Kino- als auch für den Kunstkontext produzieren.

Ziel des Zeitbild-Labors ist es, studentische Filmprojekte zu fördern, zu deren Verbreitung und Sichtbarkeit auf Festivals im In- und Ausland beizutragen und die Lehre des künstlerischen Kinofilms an der HfG in Form von Gästen und Workshops sowie im Kontakt mit der cinephilen Filmindustrie und Kunstszene zu stärken.

Laura Morcillo leitet das Zeitbild-Lab seit 2019, unter anderem in Zusammenarbeit mit Filmemacher:innen wie Prof. Serpil Turhan, Prof. Fred Kelemen und Prof. Dane Komljen sowie weiteren externen Gästen wie Carmen Beckenbach, Melissa de Raaf und Philipp Hartmann.

Nach der Produktion einiger Filme, die auf internationalen Filmfestivals gezeigt wurden, präsentierte das Zeitbild-Lab 2022 die ersten Filme der Plattform in einem Filmfestival mit Open-Air-Kino, kuratiert mit weiteren Filmen aus unserem Filmarchiv, um den Erfolg der Plattform und das 30-jährige Bestehen der HfG zu feiern.

In mehreren jährlichen Pitches können sich Studierende um eine Förderung ihrer Projekte bewerben. Jedes Projekt hat die Möglichkeit, sich für künftige Aufrufe erneut zu bewerben und gegebenenfalls in verschiedenen Phasen des Projekts Unterstützung zu erhalten. Ob es mehr als einmal Unterstützung erhält, hängt von der Menge der in jeder Ausschreibung eingereichten Projekte ab.

Vor der Einreichung der Anträge sollten mehrere Termine mit mindestens einem der Professoren und einem weiteren mit Laura Morcillo vereinbart werden, um das Projekt kennen zu lernen und Ratschläge für die Vorbereitung des Antrags zu erhalten. Dies erleichtert uns die Arbeit und ist auch für Ihr Projekt von Nutzen.

The Zeitbild-Lab is a platform founded in the spring of 2019 by Prof. Răzvan Rădulescu, Dr. Christine Reeh-Peters and Prof. João Tabarra, which offers organi-zational and financial support for student film projects. Laura Morcillo, Academic Associate in the Department of Media Art, is curator and head coordinator of the Lab. We are delighted to have Prof. Filipa César and Prof. Susanne Kriemann on this call for the first time. In two annual pitches students can apply for funding for their projects. Guests from the cinephil film industry and art scene are also regular-ly invited to further network our Lab.

Dear students,

thank you for submitting your projects to our 14th Call and for the presentations on Thursday, 29th January 2024.

The jury has concluded to support several projects in this call. The jury members have been:

We ask the students of the selected projects to contact Laura Morcillo (ed.ehurslrak-gfh(ta)ollicroml) when you receive the news of the decisions and before making new expenses.

It is necessary to make an agreement with the Zeitbild-Lab and clarify the rules for spending this money.

One of the rules, for example, is that there is a period of one semester to spend the money on this project; which can be extended if good reasons are provided in advance. This helps us to have a more concrete overview of which other projects, besides the production projects from the calls, can be supported during each semester, e.g. for the application to Festivals. *Please note that, as an exception, the deadline for using the approved funds for these projects is 30 July 2026, as the 14th call for proposals could only take place later than usual in the winter semester 2025-26, namely in January 2026 instead of October 2025.

Mrs. Augustin (Marion Augustin > ed.ehurslrak-gfh(ta)nitsugua.noiram) and Mrs. Gebhard (Birgit Gebhard > ed.ehurslrak-gfh(ta)drahbegb) provide support in financial matters as well (also under > ed.ehurslrak-gfh(ta)nesewsgnunhcer).

Two news rules in this call:

1) Mandatory consultation with at least one professor regarding the further course of the project.

Apart from this, it is still very important for the Zeitbild-Lab that all students who have submitted projects contact soon 1-2 jury members, talk about the reasons for the decisions taken, and receive further detailed advice and support about their project. I can also offer consultation hours if required.

We, therefore, ask you as usual to inform us/Zeitbild-Lab regularly about the development of your projects and send us material (Stills, Trailer, etc) when you have it, for the Filmarchive and Website, for our documentation and in order to support you further in the future. Each project has the possibility to apply again for future Calls and receive support in different phases of the project, if necessary. Whether it receives support more than once will depend on the set of projects submitted in each call.

Please note that the 15th Call will take place in April 2026.
The exact date will be announced weeks in advance. Applications can be submitted between now and 1st April 2025. Before sending the applications, it is requested to make several appointments with at least one of the professors and one more with me, in order to get to know the project and receive advice on how to prepare the application. INFORMATION: (Regular) 15th Call

Projects will once again have the opportunity to present their work in the usual for-mat and receive further financial and organisational support in the 15th Call.
Please note that the 15th Call will take place in the sommer semester 2026 (pro-bably in April). The exact date will be announced several weeks in advance. Applications can al-ready be submitted now. Before submitting your application, please arrange several appointments – with at least one of the professors and another with me, Laura Mor-cillo – to present your project and receive advice on preparing your application. This facilitates our work and is also beneficial for your project. Minimum requirements for application:

• Short CV
• Overview of project details (student's name, title – including working title –, genre, approximate duration, team list)
• Project description (2000 characters)
• Synopsis (2–4 A4 pages)
• Cost and financing plan.
• 4–5 images.

Dossiers may be submitted in English or German. Submitted applications will be evaluated by a media art jury.
Application deadline: 1 April, 12pm. Before submitting your application, please arrange several appointments with at least one of the professors and one with me to learn about the project and receive advice.
