The Kino im Blauen Salon (KibS) was awarded 1st place in the Kinematheksverbund cinema prize in the Cinema that looks back category for its focus on analog film material and its creative team of volunteers. The award ceremony took place on October 26, 2024 at the Arsenal cinema in Berlin.
This award recognizes the cinema's many years of work with 35mm and 16mm formats, archive prints and silent films. The KibS is committed to the preservation of film material, the maintenance and preservation of historical film heritage as well as the training of young talent in the classic art of screening and promotes the creative decisions of its volunteer staff.
The Kino im Blauen Salon was founded in 2016 at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) to enable regular film screenings and to make film an art form that can be experienced. The program covers a wide range, from film classics to current productions and student works. Special events include an open-air festival, semester programs, sneak previews as well as extraordinary events and collaborations.
The “Kino im Blauen Salon e.V.” association was founded in 2024 to ensure the long-term operation of the KibS. The association, which is run by students and alumni, enables independent and self-determined operation in cooperation with the HfG. Support is provided through voluntary work and donations, which ensure the continued existence and diversity of the program.
In the winter semester 2024/25, the Kino im Blauen Salon presents the new series Kino der Farben with a selection of 10 films dealing with the phenomenon of color in cinema. The program examines how color is created and works in analogue film. The offer is complemented by additional programs such as “Double Feature”, “Kult Sneak” and the event “Jazz in the Blue Salon”.
The next screening will take place on November 4 at 19:00 with Gaspar Noé's “Enter the Void”.
