Under the title “Filmschool Picks,” students of the Media Art program at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design present a curated program of six documentary and essayistic short films and audio works as part of the DOKKA – Documentary Festival Karlsruhe. Featuring works by Pauline Cemeris, Caroline Hellwig, Lea Möscheid, Luise Peschko, Tibor Pilz, Sophie Reißfelder, Sebastian Schönfeld, and Rokas Wille.
The screening will take place on May 15 at 7 pm at the Kinemathek Karlsruhe. The filmmakers will be present for a discussion with the audience after the screening. Full program and ticket information: https://dokka.de/programm/showcase.
The works open up personal, poetic and socially attentive perspectives on work, memory, bodies and everyday life. They portray women working in the male-dominated automotive trade, reflect on the quiet struggle of living with a difficult illness, and revisit the memories of a Volga German family shaped by displacement in the Soviet Union.
Other films explore the demanding reality of student film productions, essayistic reflections on body, time and memory, or the atmosphere of a public swimming pool in midsummer.
Together, the program offers a multifaceted glimpse into contemporary documentary practices emerging from HfG Karlsruhe.
