On August 2, 2025, it's that time again: 18 cultural institutions in Karlsruhe open their doors for the 26th Karlsruhe Museum Night for a very special evening full of art, knowledge and encounters! KAMUNA is dedicated to a specific theme every year. Under this year's motto “Knowledge creates diversity!”, visitors can expect a varied program of guided tours, concerts, readings, hands-on activities, theater, film screenings and much more.

The HfG opens its doors with these highlights:

For the 26th Karlsruhe Museum Night on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) will open its doors from 6 pm to midnight.

In the university's atriums, visitors can expect to see current works from all disciplines - from exhibition design and scenography to communication design, media art, product design, art science and media philosophy. For example, visitors can look forward to “THE NEST” in atrium 3 of the university: a life-size, nest-like pavilion made from regional, bio-based materials such as hemp, wood and invasive plants. The installation reflects ecological value chains and was created in cooperation with the Bio Design Lab, which specializes in regenerative materials and sustainable design approaches at the HfG.

A special highlight of KAMUNA is also the opening of La Carte Locale , a temporary pop-up wine bar of the Living Library. Here, visitors can share personal memories, local knowledge and everyday observations over a glass of wine - contributions that will be incorporated into a participatory map of the Karlsruhe region.

Another interactive offer to join in: Under the guidance of students, visitors can design buttons and pieces of jewelry on site using the 3D printing process - a low-threshold insight into digital design technologies.

The Cinema in the Blue Salon will also be showing short films from the Media Art and Scenography/Exhibition Design degree courses. A wide variety of works can be seen: From scenic short films to experimental formats and documentaries, there should be something for everyone. The films run continuously in a loop, the door to the movie theater remains open. Coming and going is possible and encouraged at any time!

Visitors can also see results of a cooperation between HfG and AHOI studios: Under the direction of academic staff member Simon Gehring (HfG) and the director of the artist collective AHOI studios, Brigitte Reisz, a joint ceramics workshop was realized during the summer semester 2025. HfG students and artists with and without disabilities worked together in tandems. In a creative exchange, they developed multi-layered ceramic objects using modeling, casting, 3D printing and firing. The individual working methods of the participants were incorporated into the design process and led to joint, expressive results. The resulting works can be seen at KAMUNA in the atriums of the HfG.

At KAMUNA, the HfG presents itself as an open, lively place for interdisciplinary design, participation and critical design thinking.

Tickets for KAMUNA are available in advance for 10 euros (e.g. via Reservix, at the Tourist-Info Karlsruhe and at participating institutions). They cost 12 euros at the box office. Shuttle buses between the venues are included in the ticket price.
