From sunrise to deep into the night: a few hours in the life of Monsieur Oscar, a shadowy existence that wanders from one life to the next. Sometimes he is a captain of industry, sometimes a killer, a beggar, a monster or a caring family man. He is alone, accompanied only by Céline, the tall blonde behind the wheel of the huge stretch limousine that drives him through Paris and into the suburbs. Like a professional killer rushing from job to job.

The film will be shown as part of the film series "The Cinema of Euphoria", in which the Kino im Blauen Salon explores the concept of euphoria and puts it up for discussion in all its diverse representational and evocative possibilities.

Belgium/France 2012, 115 minutes, 35mm, original version with German subtitles Director: Leos Carax With Denis Lavant, Édith Scob, Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue, Michel Piccoli and others. Preliminary program: 35mm cinema trailer show on the topic

More about the film series "The Cinema of Euphoria"

Euphoria is one of those words that we have inherited from the ancient Greeks. And as with many of these words, the question is: what does it even mean? And since we are a film club, the question is of course: what does it mean to feel euphoria at the movies? Does the selection of films we have put together make us happy, in love with life? Can films still do this in an age in which the image has lost its power due to its inherent oversaturation?

In this summer semester, carried along by spring, we will take you on a journey that examines the concept of euphoria in all its diverse representational and evocative possibilities. From Jackie Chan to Werner Herzog, from Singing in the Rain to Leos Carax!
