Applications for admission to the course must be submitted for the following winter semester between March 1 and April 30 of the respective year (deadline).

The documents for the application, the letter of motivation and the portfolio in PDF format (practical subjects) must be submitted online. Link to the application portal: https://h1.hfg-karlsruhe.de


The Following Application Documents Are Required

Application is only possible online. The portfolio can also only be submitted online.

After a successful upload of the completed application form online, the following application documents must also be uploaded:

  • Letter of motivation explaining your choice of study (1 to 2 pages)
  • Copies of the general or subject-specific university entrance qualification (if the certificate is not yet available, a current school certificate, as well as a copy of the half-year report)
  • Bachelor's degree certificate, if applicable
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Artistic portfolio with work samples
  • If applicable, already existing proof of sufficient German language skills (for foreign applicants).

Note: International applicants and students have to submit proof of having passed a language test for enrollment.

The following examinations, certificates and diplomas are currently recognized as proof of language proficiency:

  1. passing the „Prüfungsteil Deutsch“ of the assessment test at a preparatory college,
  2. passing the German Language Test for University Entrance (DSH) with the overall result “DSH-1”,
  3. passing the TestDaF examination (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) with a result of at least TestDaF level 3 (TDN 3) in all parts of the examination,
  4. the Deutsche Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz/German Language Diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs - Second Level (DSD II),
  5. the “Goethe-Zertifikat B2”,
  6. the “Österreichisches Sprachdiplom B2” (ÖSD B2),
  7. the passed examination “telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule”.

For multiple applications, complete application documents for each course requiring application (including portfolio) is necessary.
