A striking feature of the HfG Karlsruhe is its building. Together with the ZKM and the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe, the university is housed in the largest historic industrial building in Baden-Württemberg. Where ammunition was once produced, 368 students study, 95 of whom are international students (as of winter semester 2024/25).

The entrance on the west side can be reached via Lorenzstraße. The entrance on the east side is opposite the new buildings of the employment agency and the federal prosecutor's office.
Public Transport:
From the main station, take streetcar line 2 (direction Siemensallee via ZKM) to the stop “ZKM” or bus line 55 (direction Kühler Krug) to the stop “Lorenzstraße/ZKM”.

By Car:
From the highway (A5), exit Karlsruhe Mitte, via Südtangente, exit 4 ZKM, on Brauerstraße towards the city center, at the second set of traffic lights turn left into Südendstraße, the first street on the right is Lorenzstraße.
Parking spaces:
There are around 700 parking spaces available in the paid parking garage. The “ZKM” parking garage can be reached via Südendstraße 44. Two charging stations are available for electric cars - while one station is reserved for “Stadtmobil” cars, the other station can be used by all underground parking garage parkers.
The house rules apply to all buildings, parts of buildings and properties used and managed by the HfG Karlsruhe. These apply to all members, relatives and external parties who use these premises.

The former munitions factory with its special architecture and the artistic flair of the HfG is a great subject for photos. If you take photographs in the HfG Karlsruhe, please respect and observe the personal rights of those present.
Please contact us directly for permission to film and photograph in the HfG building. The contact person is Kommunikationsabteilung.
Waste separation is an important topic at the HfG Karlsruhe. In a university of design with its various workshops and workplaces, clean separation of waste is particularly important.

Appropriate applications are required to gain access to the building. Permission must be obtained to use the building at weekends and at night.

The HfG Karlsruhe has the full right to award doctorates and confers the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) on the basis of a full doctorate in the field of art studies, media theory or philosophy. The doctorate serves as proof of the ability to conduct in-depth academic work and is based on independent academic work (dissertation) and an oral examination, one of the subjects of which is the dissertation.

The central facilities of the HfG Karlsruhe include the library, the studios and workshops and the technology lending.

The aim of information security is to process, store and transmit information in such a way that the confidentiality, availability and binding nature of the information is guaranteed. The information officer monitors and controls information security issues and trends and is responsible for recognizing dangers far beyond IT and preventing any resulting negative effects on the university in the best possible way.

Sustainability at HfG Karlsruhe - a topic that concerns and challenges us.
The Rectorate's Sustainability Officer is responsible for the planning, introduction, implementation, management and continuous improvement of process and project-related sustainability strategies and measures at the university. One focus here is the mapping of sustainability in all areas of the university, be it teaching or administration.
