Skin – envelope, elastic, fragile, protective and delimiting. The largest and most versatile organ of animals is the starting point for the "Second Skin n-1" project, not only in terms of its functionality, but also from a material as well as philosophical-conceptual perspective. In this way, skin becomes a place of exchange, a "sk-interface" (Jens Hauser), where the boundaries of individuals or even species, of art, science and philosophy begin to blur. In cooperation with the ZKM, we developed exhibits for the exhibition "Matter. non-Matter. Anti-Matter" (02.12.22 - 23.04.23), that deal with the theme "Second Skin" (orig. french: Deuxième peau). This exhibition section of the same name was part of the iconic exhibition "Les Immatériaux" (Centre Pompidou, Paris 1985) curated by Jean-François Lyotard, which serves as a historical reference for the ZKM exhibition. Complementing and as a continuation of the material experiments, the work show "Second Skin n-1", which takes place in the context of the symposium "Future of Gestaltung" from 09-10.02.23 at Bio Design Labs, challenges those qualities, potentials and irritations of skin-like (bio-)materials to a further level.
