With the “Digital Sovereignty for Universities of the Arts” project, the three universities are jointly developing a cross-university digital teaching infrastructure that is geared towards the special requirements of artistic teaching and research. The initiative sees itself as a pioneering achievement, as it goes beyond isolated individual initiatives and creates a structured, sustainably anchored infrastructure with joint control.
The focus is on digital solutions that enable project-based working methods, synchronize production, documentation and publication processes and support the handling of heterogeneous and interdisciplinary projects as well as special (research) data formats. The infrastructure is based on the guiding principles of sovereignty, openness, maturity and sustainability - central in the context of a reflective and responsible artistic practice.
An accompanying teaching and training program aims to develop a culture of data sovereignty and digital maturity within the entire university community. The structures developed in the course of the project are to be permanently anchored in the universities and transferred to other institutions in the future. The long-term goal is to establish a Digital Sovereignty Atelier that advises art colleges on their digital transformation and disseminates tried-and-tested models.
With the “Teaching Architecture” call for proposals, the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching is supporting innovative, strategically effective structures to strengthen studies and teaching. The funding for Baden-Württemberg's universities of the arts is part of a larger success for the state: a total of over 71 million euros will flow into 15 projects at 14 universities in Baden-Württemberg.
Science Minister Petra Olschowski praised the selection: “The universities in Baden-Württemberg have impressed with their innovative teaching concepts. This is a great success and shows the creative potential of our universities.”
