In New Orleans, devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Terence is a gambler, cocaine addict, heavily in debt and plagued by chronic pain who is tasked with solving the murder of a family of African-American migrants. In the process, he is drawn more and more into a maelstrom of drugs and corruption. The complicated investigations, drug procurement and settling old betting debts increasingly become a tightrope walk for Terence that takes on ever more grotesque features.

More about the film series "The Cinema of Euphoria"

Euphoria is one of those words that we have inherited from the ancient Greeks. And as with many of these words, the question is: what does it even mean? And since we are a film club, the question is of course: what does it mean to feel euphoria at the movies? Does the selection of films we have put together make us happy, in love with life? Can films still do this in an age in which the image has lost its power due to its inherent oversaturation?

In this summer semester, carried along by spring, we will take you on a journey that examines the concept of euphoria in all its diverse representational and evocative possibilities. From Jackie Chan to Werner Herzog, from Singing in the Rain to Leos Carax!
