For the 2026/27 winter semester, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design welcomes two new visiting professors in the field of media art: Prof. Tiara Roxanne and Prof. Audrey Chen.
Tiara Roxanne is a scholar, performance artist, and filmmaker. In her work, she explores the relationships between digital technologies, land, bodies, and memory from anti-colonial, ecofeminist, and cyberfeminist perspectives. A key focus of her research is the extent to which digital technologies are linked to the exploitation of resources from Indigenous territories and how colonial legacies are inscribed in land, bodies, and memory. Her work has been presented internationally, including at Ars Electronica in Linz, Transmediale in Berlin, and the University of Cambridge. She is the author of a book to be published shortly by the University of California Press (2027), in which she further develops her concepts of “digital attunement” and “technological haunting.”
Audrey Chen has lived and worked in Berlin since 2011. As a second-generation Taiwanese-American artist, her work explores migration and integration, the loss and appropriation of language, untold stories, and the question of how inherited and lived experiences can provide access to the past. Her artistic practice combines extreme, unprocessed vocal sounds with the electronic sounds of a Ciat-Lonbarde “Fourses” synthesizer to create a unique, ecstatic musical language. For more than two decades, Chen has performed internationally and collaborated, among other things, on various solo and ensemble projects with artists such as Phil Minton, Kaffe Matthews, Nick Klein, and Tashi Dorji. Her works have been presented worldwide at numerous festivals and renowned venues.
