The artist convinced the jury with her extraordinary artistic work. [...] Marleine Chedraoui's works are characterised by an extraordinary conceptual depth. With analytical acuity and poetic sensitivity, she explores the mechanisms of the art system and poses fundamental questions about the structure of exhibitions. Her works invite the public to rethink space and its meanings. The jury's unanimous decision reflects the relevance and special quality of her artistic practice.’
About the Hanna Nagel Prize
Hanna Nagel - one of the most important representatives of the ‘New Objectivity’ movement - had to deal with socially ascribed roles throughout her life and find her way in an art world in which women were either absent or only marginally represented. [...]
Five female presidents from Karlsruhe established the Hanna Nagel Prize in 1998 on the initiative of Jutta Limbach, then President of the Federal Constitutional Court. The prize is aimed specifically at female artists over the age of forty. [...]
Since 2011, the prize has been awarded by the presidents, the City of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Regional Council.
