The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design was deeply saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Ministerialrat Dr. Volker Wedekind at the age of 52.

Dr. Volker Wedekind worked for many years at the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg, most recently as head of the university department with responsibility for universities of applied sciences and non-state universities. Prior to that, he headed the department for art and music colleges and was also responsible for the interests of the HfG Karlsruhe in this capacity.

The university remembers Dr. Wedekind as a committed representative of the ministry who accompanied the development of the HfG with great interest and understanding for its special structures and challenges. His professional competence, his engaging manner, and his sense for the concerns of art colleges shaped the trusting cooperation.

With his death, the HfG Karlsruhe has lost a reliable contact and a personality who was deeply committed to the interests of the state's universities.

The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design will honor the memory of Dr. Volker Wedekind. Our sympathy goes out to his family and colleagues at the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg.
