As part of the opening ceremony for the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) exhibition tour on July 16, this year’s six exhibition tour prizes were awarded to outstanding student works. Through Sunday, July 19, the university presented a wide-ranging program of exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and performances on its campus.

The ZKM/HfG Support Association awarded a total of 8,000 euros to three student projects: Anna Manankina received 3,000 euros for her project “The Arbiter,” Alejandra Miranda Janus was awarded 3,000 euros for “Layered Vision,” and Mia Ferrari received 2,000 euros for her thesis “no wind, no word.”

The Gunther Schroff Foundation’s top prize, worth 5,000 euros, was awarded to Laura Waterstradt (Exhibition Design and Scenography) for her intermediate thesis “Rote Saat.” The Heinrich Hertz Society Prize (2,500 euros) went to Lena Breitmoser for her diploma thesis “The Violent Container” . The City of Karlsruhe University Award (€1,000) was awarded to Christian Platz for his master’s thesis “Multiplied Objects as a Form of Self-Organization.”

A total of 15 projects and theses were nominated for the awards—three each from the five departments: Media Art, Product Design, Exhibition Design and Scenography, Communication Design, and Art Research and Media Philosophy. This year, all nominated works also received a special recognition for their nomination.

The jury consisted of Dr. Marlene Angermeyer-Deubner (ZKM/HfG Support Association), Dr. Sebastian Baden (Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt), Dr. Anett Holzheid (ZKM), Prof. Dr. Inge Hinterwaldner (Free University of Bolzano), Prof. Mischa Kuball (Academy of Media Arts Cologne), and Dr. Henning Rickmann (ZKM/HfG Support Association).

During the awards ceremony, Dominika Szope (City of Karlsruhe Cultural Affairs Office), Susanne Schroff (Gunther Schroff Foundation), and Prof. Dr. Nestmann (Heinrich Hertz Society) delivered remarks. The awards ceremony underscores the long-standing support provided by these funding institutions to emerging artists and designers at the HfG Karlsruhe.
