With the POP UP LAB "Heute studiert Karlsruhe", science, workshops and installations are moving into the heart of the city centre in June: From 1 to 30 June, the Science Office of the City of Karlsruhe will transform the former Hallhuber space at Kaiserstraße 145 into an open POP-UP-LAB for science, creativity and hands-on activities just a few steps away from Marktplatz.
Among the exhibition are also four positions from the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG Karlsruhe)
Franca Lau with her work "Trampelpfad" 1. - 30. June A large-scale installation featuring handcrafted ants made of wire and beads; focusing on collective structures and spatial impact.
Melanie Wisser with her work PLAY DATE OBJECS 1. - 30. June Melanie Wisser presents interactive seating and play objects that explore the themes of childhood and design. You can find out more about Melanie and her work here
Sebastian Schillbach & Erik Grunder with a Workshop June 15th, 2026
The two students from the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and other students from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology are offering a guided workshop on designing and building veneer objects, such as lamps or bowls, using simple materials and tools.

Opening hours: The POP-UP-LAB is open for you at the following times in June:
Monday to Friday: regular 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed at weekends and on 4 June due to Corpus Christi)
On selected days, the Lab opens at 10 a.m. or there are evening events that last longer than 8 p.m.. You can find out what these are in the programme.
