“Test Assemblies. A Laboratory for Robotic Architecture and Digital Fabrication” (2025) with media material from the Archive of Gramazio Kohler Research (ETH Zurich): Prof. Armin Linke (Academy of Fine Arts Munich), in collaboration with Prof. Giulia Bruno (ISIA Urbino University), Giuseppe Ielasi, Prof. Nina Zschocke (Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design)
Rubble Aggregations. Robotic Sand Molding. Soft Particle Aggregation. Remote Material Deposition. Augmented Bricklaying. Rock Print. Rapid Clay Formation:
The work of Gramazio Kohler Research at ETH Zurich revolves around the potential of computational, robotic and material systems to aggregate into complex, sometimes unexpected architectures, ideally with sustainable material or in a fully reversible manner.
By engaging with the visual archive of Gramazio Kohler, the video installation exposes not self-regulating cybernetic environments, but laboratory set ups in which material research and handling, the programming and modification of digital devices, scientific assumptions and design goals all mutually drive and transform each other. By selecting laboratory recordings from the archive and exposing them to a musical composition as well as to short theory inspired text fragments, Test Assemblies speculates about the found material’s broader cultural value and meaning.
